This is used because the color is not projected by light, but relies on exterior light to reflect off of the media on which is printed to produce a certain perceived color. When you're looking at a printed image, that is a subtractive color model most often produced by CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, & Black or "Key") systems. In that model, green is a primary color and magenta is the opposite of green. That means that pixels of light are being told to emit specific tones to produce the colors you see. The screen you're looking at now is RGB(Red, Green, & Blue) projected or additive color. Lilac walls make the room feel soft and comforting.
